Tofu Bhurji is a healthy and delicious vegetarian dish made with crumbled tofu and aromatic Indian spices. This dish is flavorful, protein-rich, and perfect for a wholesome meal. Serve it hot with chapati, roti, or even toast for a quick and satisfying meal.

Tofu is an excellent source of plant-based protein, rich in calcium and iron, and low in calories — making it a great option for those looking for a nutritious and balanced diet.

Ingredients

  • Extra firm Tofu - 200g
  • Onion - 1, medium sized
  • Tomato - 2, medium sized
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - To taste

Method
  1. Squeeze out the excess water from the tofu using a kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on it for a few minutes to remove remaining moisture. This step is important for better texture and taste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan.
  3. Add cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds.
  4. Add finely chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
  5. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
  6. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt. Sauté for a few seconds.
  7. Add tomatoes and cook until soft and mashed.
  8. Crumble (scramble) the tofu and add it to the pan. Mix well, adjust salt if needed, and cook for a few minutes.
  9. Serve hot with chapati.
